Friday night was special. We decided to go down to one of our local pubs, the George, for a couple of drinks. As it happened it was a special Christmas Showcase at the George, which meant that the pub was packed, the barmaids were dressed as skanky Santa's Little Helpers and there were exciting games!
We decided to give the karaoke a miss, but we were dead keen for the Christmas themed quiz. It was a £1 entry per person and given that we had a team of two and that quizzes in England are usually full of questions like "Who was the 14th person voted off 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here' in 1989?" we weren't entirely filled with confidence. However, we decided there weren't too many smart people in the pub.
As it turned out, we did pretty well but got quite a few questions wrong. However, one of the questions was to name all 8 of the official reindeer (not counting Rudolph) and we got a clean sweep and won the quiz - Prancer and Dancer and Donna and Blitzen, Comet and Cupid and Dasher and Vixen. The team who came second managed about 3/8 and also threw in Jetsom and Chancer as possible answers. So it appears that our reindeer knowledge won us the quiz. We won £30 for our efforts.
We named ourselves Team New Zealand. So now it appears that we are world champions in rugby league and the George Christmas quiz...
In other news, Tim met Arsenal and Croatia football superstar, Eduardo, at the Emirates Stadium yesterday. Eduardo is the guy whose foot fell off during an outrageous tackle against Birmingham in February (it actually did - there was bone sticking through his sock, it fully fell off). It was thought that his career was all done and dusted, however he has made a remarkable recovery and is set to play his first game back in the next week or two. Hopefully he is as good as he was before the injury, because he is a quality striker. Tim got a photo with Eduardo and got his autograph...awesome.
And in further news, in case you didn't scroll right down to the bottom of the Stratford blog, here is another picture of the Beatles Russian dolls...
